SERVPRO reaches 2000 franchises!
Blog Summary: SERVPRO reached a milestone of 2000 franchises across the nation earlier this year.
Blog: All successful businesses start with a small idea and a big dream. With hard work and dedication, these dreams can grow into a reality. The start of SERVPRO was no different. It began with a dream and grew into the distinguished international company it is today.
The first generation of SERVPRO began in 1969 with small business entrepreneurs who had very little to work with. They may not have had much, but they had big dreams and a passion to serve. They all shared a common goal to create a system of franchise owners and help these franchises get into their own business. Ted Isaacson, the founder of SERVPRO, traveled across the country training people to join the SERVPRO team.
During the mid-1980s, the second generation of SERVPRO began and SERVPRO went from a small entrepreneurial company to a rapidly growing national franchise. A few of their goals were to reach 2,000 franchises and to earn $1 billion in system sales. At the time, the company only had 350 licensees and $30 million in gross system sales, but with perseverance and diligence the company was able to grow.
SERVPRO was able to check off one of the milestones off of our bucket list by passing $1 billion in systems sales. This year, we reached our second milestone and welcomed our 2,000th franchise into the SERVPRO family! The SERVPRO team built Ted Isaacs dream into an incredible international franchise company across the U.S. and Canada.
With over 2,000 franchises, SERVPRO is “faster to any size disaster.” So the next time you experience water or fire damage in your residential or commercial property, call SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County at (817) 297-8588. We will restore your property “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPROXIDE product now available to franchises and consumers.
Blog Summary: SERVPRO has a team of chemists who test, evaluate and create our products to make sure SERVPRO franchises are using the best products out there to handle restoration work and now they have made one available to consumers.
Blog: The spread of COVID 19 has disrupted our way of life, our homes and our places of business and brought awareness to the need for a deeper level of clean to help keep our families, our employees and our customers safe from transferable illnesses. SERVPRO easily worked COVID 19 cleanings into our service lines because we already had products in our inventory that were approved to combat this terrible virus.
SERVPRO's dedicated team of chemists screen and evaluate potential products for their efficacy and potential benefit to SERVPRO franchises in their restoration and cleaning efforts. These chemists also create products specifically for the use of SERVPRO franchises. Prior to COVID 19 SERVPRO created SERVPROXIDE, an EPA registered, stabilized chlorine dioxide-based disinfectant and sanitizer. It kills harmful bacteria, viruses and mold on hard surfaces as well as being an effective sanitizer on soft surfaces. SERVPROXIDE carries the EPA's lowest toxicity rating and makes it safe for everyday use.
Due to the widespread concern of COVID 19, SERVPRO decided to make SERVPROXIDE available to the public and not just to their franchises. SERVPRO partnered with Amazon to get this amazing product in the hands of the regular consumer who wants a SERVPRO level of clean but on their own time schedule and in a pinch when needed.
SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County uses SERVPROXIDE and other SERVPRO chemists tried and tested products when it performs COVID 19 cleanings, biohazard remediation, sewage mitigation and mold cleanings in the Cleburne, Crowley, Joshua, Glen Rose, Granbury, Keene, Cresson and Fort Worth areas.
Eight Places Leaks Hide That Homeowners Often Miss Until It Is Too Late
1/10/2022 (Permalink)
Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County helps homeowners locate places where leaks may be hiding in their homes.
SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County provides property damage restoration services, including water removal, drying, and mold remediation. A water intrusion from storm damage, a burst supply line, or a hidden leak can cause severe damage. Identifying the source of the leak and removing the water and moisture is crucial to prevent advanced secondary damage.
The team at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County provides thorough remediation of water damage from sneaky leaks once the leak is stopped. Undetected, hidden water leaks can have serious consequences for the homeowner. According to home and garden resource BobVila.com, “Building materials and water don’t mix. Insulation, wood studs, plywood sheathing, and subflooring can all degrade, rot, or develop mold when they’re repeatedly saturated with water. Making the situation even worse, this water damage is often hidden from sight, tucked away between walls or under floors. As a result, significant structural damage can occur before it’s discovered.”
Listed below are eight of the most common hidden leaks that can cause great structural damage if left undetected.
#1. In and around a window
A prime location for a sneaky leak is a window. High winds, hail, and heavy rain can take a toll on a window. Signs of potential damage include:
- window screens that are dented, torn, or missing
- cracked, shattered, or broken windows or window panes
- cracked or dented siding
These damages are obvious and need to be immediately repaired. Water removal and applied structural drying will mitigate the water damage. Simply fixing the window and removing the water intrusion may not address any leaks that are not readily visible.
Moisture from a severe thunderstorm can sneak in between the window sash and the jamb, trickling down the framing studs in the wall without being noticed. Eventually, the undetected leak can cause wood rot and mold. Over time, the hidden leaks will manifest evidence of their existence. Look for bubbling and peeling paint around and under the window. Warping sheetrock, soft flooring, and a moldy, musty smell around a window eventually expose the sneaky leak.
#2. Under the siding
Water and moisture can hide under the siding at the corners of the house and where two siding panels meet. Water can sneak under the siding around windows where the siding abuts the trim. Gaps in these locations can allow moisture to make its way beneath the siding. The plywood sheathing under the siding will eventually rot, but the damage may remain concealed under the siding for years.
#3. Behind gutters
Overflow from clogged gutters can damage the soffit, ruin OSB and plywood roof sheathing, and flood into the attic. Because the area affected by the gutter overflow is often inaccessible, the damage can grow with every heavy thunderstorm. By the time the homeowner discovers the issue, the water damage is extensive.
#4. Under the thresholds of exterior doors
Shielded from view but not shielded from water damage, the wood underneath the metal threshold of an exterior door will eventually rot from repeated exposure to moisture. The only indication of water damage is when the metal threshold begins to work loose and wobble.
#5. Through painted window sills of exterior windows
A common location for water damage in older homes is an exterior windowsill with many layers of paint. A tiny trickle of moisture through cracks in the paint can slowly rot the wood. A windowsill in a seldom-used or vacant room can decay unnoticed for years. The homeowner can conduct a DIY check of exterior window sills with a screwdriver or other probe. If the tip of the implement penetrates into the wood when pressure is applied, the rot may result from water seepage into the sill.
#6. Behind drywall after a flood
Water from flooding or a burst water pipe can create a moist environment behind the drywall that promotes mold growth and wood rot. Special drying techniques or drywall replacement below the flood line may be necessary to remove the risk of mold infestation and wood rot. The rising water may have also damaged electrical circuits and outlets.
#7. Behind an exterior faucet
An outside faucet is a favorite avenue for water intrusion. The faucet connection to the internal water pipe is challenging and can develop a leak. The unseen leak can damage sheathing and framing studs in the wall.
#8. Around a chimney
Chimneys, exhaust fans, and vents create huge holes in the shingles and roof deck. However, if the large roof penetrations are properly sealed, leaks will not usually occur. It is advisable to have a roof professional inspect the structure annually.
Pro tip: Chimneys comprised of brick and mortar are porous and can wick moisture into a home, causing structural damage and mold. The chimney must be coated with a sealant to prevent wicking and leakage.
When a hidden water leak reveals itself through a musty smell, water stains, a spongy floor, or a collapsed ceiling, contact the professionals at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County. The water damage restoration company has the equipment, training, and expertise to quickly restore the property damage so that life returns to normal for the homeowner.

Specialized Cleaning Processes Deliver Effective Solutions
The cleaning technicians at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County are trained and experienced in implementing a variety of specialized carpet cleaning methods.
Showcase Premier Cleaning | Best for: Heavy to Moderate Soil Buildup
Showcase Premier Cleaning is the most thorough carpet cleaning process offered in the cleaning and restoration industry. Because of its restorative nature, this method is ideal for treating carpets that have been damaged by fire. Technicians shampoo and rinse the dirty carpet, after which they extract the water and cleaning products.
Deluxe Precondition and Rinse | Best for: Heavy to Moderate Soil Buildup
Deluxe Precondition and Rinse revolves around the application of a soil emulsifier. After allowing around 15 minutes for the agent to set, technicians use an extraction unit equipped with a vacuum wand to take soil and cleaning substances out of the carpet. Like Showcase Premier Cleaning, Deluxe Precondition and Rinse restores the carpeting, but it is better suited for addressing water-damaged carpet.
Hot Water Extraction | Best for: Moderate Soil Buildup
Hot water extraction provides a deep clean and is suitable for all types of carpets. A portable unit administers a cleaning solution and hot water as the carpet is being vacuumed. Hot water extraction also helps to lengthen the lifespan of the carpeting.
Bonnet Cleaning | Best for: Light Soil Buildup
Less aggressive than the methods listed above, Bonnet Cleaning is geared towards carpet maintenance, as well as the cleaning needs of short piled carpeting. Carpets are lightly sprayed with the cleaning agent, and the SERVPRO technician uses a bonnet carpet cleaning system, which involves rotary action and an absorbent pad called a bonnet, to remove soil buildup.
Dry Cleaning | Best for: Light Soil Buildup
If the client is concerned about the color of the carpet fading, the cleaning specialist may recommend dry cleaning to preserve the carpet’s appearance. The team applies a powdered cleaning solution, which permeates the carpet’s fibers and loosens dirt and stains. A light spray of water is added to encourage the process of breaking down grime.
SERVPRO is widely recognized for the rapid response that technicians provide for clients who are experiencing a cleaning emergency. The Spruce, an online resource dedicated to home living topics, lists SERVPRO as the carpet cleaning company that is “Best for Emergencies.” According to The Spruce, “Equipped with a variety of tools and carpet cleaning strategies, this nationwide company has technicians that can accurately assess whether or not your carpet can be restored. Plus, they can advise you on the cost and tidying strategy that best fits your situation. SERVPRO offers both steam extraction carpet cleaning, along with dry cleaning options. Since the focus of the business is on post-emergency clean-up, you’ll appreciate the fact that they offer 24-hour a day emergency service.”
Emergency service is a source of hope and relief for homeowners and their families. Ceilings, walls, flooring, furniture, and personal belongings suffer damage.
Two challenges face the Hillsboro, TX, homeowner or business needing property damage restoration services. A prompt response on the part of the restoration company is of utmost importance. A property damage disaster also touches a homeowner or business owner at a very personal level. The home is where the heart is. A small business owner often regards his or her enterprise as a valuable investment of time, sweat, and love, not to mention money. This very personal aspect of owning property highlights the importance of hiring a reputable property damage restoration company that will treat the customer with the utmost care, honesty, and respect.
Listed below are ten key indicators that a Hillsboro, TX, damage restoration company is built on a foundation of integrity and trust.

Look for a company that is owned and operated by individuals who live in the community and hire from within the community or nearby. The company should also be known for investing in organizations and events that make the community a better place to live in.
#2. Experienced, trained, and certified technicians
The ideal restoration company will have been in business for many years. Experience comes with an investment of time. The owner should have a background in property damage restoration, commercial cleaning services, or a related field such as general contracting.

Certification demonstrates a strong commitment to investing in employees in a way that directly benefits both the employee and the customers they serve.
#3. Available 24/7, 365 days a year
24/7 availability demonstrates a company’s commitment to serving clients any time, any day, even on weekends and holidays. A company that makes this promise has gathered a team of employees that share this commitment to uninterrupted service.
#4. Rapid response times
The ability to respond within an hour makes a powerful statement about a company’s competency, organization, and reliability. Only the best companies can have a crew on the scene in an hour. The workforce, equipment, and materials are marshaled and deployed almost instantaneously. A quick response requires preparation, skill, and a high level of professional commitment.
#5. Thorough inspection and assessment
Upon arrival, a technician dedicated to inspection and assessment evaluates the situation and provides the customer with a detailed estimate using industry-standard estimating software. The estimate includes documentation and images.
#6. State-of-the-art equipment, technology, techniques, and cleaning materials
A reputable company utilizes industry-standard, commercial-grade equipment. Advanced water-detecting equipment is indispensable to ensure thorough drying. A property damage disaster creates a hazardous site that requires personal protective gear (PPG) and safe cleaning materials and techniques. A reputable company will not cut corners in these critical areas.
#7. Project management capacity
A truly skilled company is able to coordinate all facets of the project, including subcontractors and other vendors. Project management streamlines the restoration process and ensures seamless, competent performance.

What Are the Benefits of Hiring Technicians Who Are Certified in Commercial Carpet Maintenance?
11/2/2021 (Permalink)
Blog Summary: When business owners need maintenance for the carpets at their facilities, the best course of action is to trust the job to a team of IICRC-certified Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technicians.
When choosing a damage restoration company to provide services at a commercial facility, the business owner or property manager should make sure that the restoration company’s technicians are equipped with the proper certifications to safely and successfully complete the project. Certifications are equally important when it comes to building cleaning and maintenance services.
The team at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County is proud to offer services that are backed by industry-leading certifications. One of the certifications that the team has earned is the Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician certification from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).
What Is the IICRC?
The IICRC was founded in 1972 and has become the standard-setting certifying body for the damage restoration industry, the cleaning industry, and the inspection industry. Since its inception, the non-profit organization has certified almost 50,000 technicians and 6,500 firms. The organization’s website notes, “The IICRC offers 26 different certifications across the Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Industries that are taught by highly trained Approved Instructors and Schools.”
What Is the Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician Certification?
According to the IICRC, “Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician (CCMT) certification is designed as an academic and practical assessment of commercial carpet and maintenance processes and procedures. Emphasis is on the ANSI/IICRC S100 Standard for Professional Cleaning of Textile Floor Coverings, carpet cleaning methodologies, safety procedures, and developing standard operating procedures for individuals who will perform these procedures in the field.”
Topics covered in the certification courses include “the importance of preventative, daily, interim, and deep cleaning and how they contribute to the overall success of the commercial carpet maintenance program.”
Why Choose SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County for Commercial Carpet Maintenance?
Carpeting is an investment for a business. Forbes reports that “installation costs, on average, $700 to $2,000 to redo an area up to 200 square feet. Carpet material prices average $2.50 per square foot or $10 per yard. Carpet padding costs about $0.60 per square foot.” However, the market disruption brought about by COVID-19 has brought about rising costs for labor and materials, and the fluctuations continue. Both the price of new carpet installation and the current uncertainties stemming from COVID-19 are powerful motivators for business owners to invest in carpet maintenance.
Although even the best-quality carpeting will show signs of wear over time, regular maintenance can help the carpet stay clean and presentable. Do not wait until the carpeting is permeated with dirt to bring in the cleaning and maintenance professionals. If the carpet becomes too grimy, it may not be able to be restored. When a carpet is visibly dirty, people are only seeing the topmost layer of grime, which is above multiple unseen layers of dirt that have collected in the soft fibers. Below the surface, grime has become lodged in the crevices of the carpeting, devaluing the business owner’s investment. To prevent irreparable damage, the business owner or property manager must implement a regular maintenance and cleaning schedule before the carpet becomes too dirty.
Not only do maintenance and cleaning improve the appearance of carpeting, but they also lengthen the carpet’s lifespan. Carpet collects many different types of substances such as dirt, dust, grime, soil, pollen, lint, hair, crumbs, and mold. As a result of the constant accumulation of debris, vacuuming is an essential part of any carpet maintenance protocol.
At SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County, proactive carpet maintenance involves regular vacuuming, spot removal, matting prevention, traffic pattern adjustment, and the use of walk-off mats. The company’s professional carpet cleaning services are effective for both moderate and heavy soil accumulation in carpeting. A variety of specialized cleaning methods are utilized to keep carpets looking spotless. These methods include hot water extraction, showcase premier cleaning, deluxe precondition and rinse, bonnet cleaning, and dry cleaning.
In general, it is recommended that business owners or property managers schedule carpet cleaning every 12 months. However, daily foot traffic, the type of carpeting, the color of the carpet, and the amount of dirt build-up may necessitate more frequent cleaning.

Why Prequalify a Restoration Specialist for Off-Campus Living Accommodations Before Students Start College?
8/18/2021 (Permalink)
Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County urges property owners of off-campus housing to prequalify a damage restoration company before students arrive.
The property damage restoration experts at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County understand the concerns of the property owner who owns and rents out off-campus housing to college students. The challenges of being a landlord can be stressful. Landlords can reduce some of the stress by prequalifying a property damage restoration company with the experience and skill to work with this type of niche property.
By prequalifying a damage restoration company before students arrive on campus, a property owner can be ready in an emergency. A disaster mitigation and restoration team can be dispatched in minutes and on scene within an hour or less when the property owner knows who to call.
When would the services of a property damage restoration company be needed?
Owning off-campus rental property can be rewarding and challenging. Occasions that would require the services of a damage restoration company include the following scenarios:
- Natural disasters
Cleburne, TX, experiences its share of the severe weather that hits the North Texas region. Hurricanes, tropical depressions, tornadoes, and heavy thunderstorms are a part of life in this section of the United States. When severe weather damages a home or business, emergency tarping is needed immediately to stop the water intrusion and prevent further damage.
- Water damage and sewage damage events
A home full of college students will have its share of water damage and sewage backups. When these disasters occur, the damage restoration team can provide a rapid response, resolve the water intrusion or sewage spill, and begin the cleanup and restoration process immediately.
- Fire and smoke damage from a cooking fire or electrical malfunction
Cooking in the kitchen is a leading cause of house fires. A home full of college students is also overloaded with electronic devices and chargers. The concentration of novice cooks and electronics increases the likelihood of a fire damage disaster.
- Celebrations and weekend parties
Celebrations and weekend parties may create an environment that requires the immediate attention of a professional cleaning service. Some situations may fall into the category of biohazard cleanup when drug paraphernalia, narcotics, spilled alcohol, and bodily fluids are involved.
What to look for when prequalifying a property damage restoration company
The practical questions listed below are designed to assist a property owner in prequalifying a restoration company.
- Basic business information
How long has the business been in operation? Is it locally owned and operated? What is the background of the owner? Is the owner involved in the day-to-day affairs of the business? Is the company listed with the Better Business Bureau?
- Response time
What is the stated response time of the company? How soon can they be on scene for the specific property? A local company with a nearby base of operations will be more likely to arrive within the estimated time frame.
- Upon arrival
What happens upon arrival? A qualified property damage restoration team will begin with an inspection and assessment of the situation. A water intrusion such as a burst pipe, a ruptured appliance supply line, or a leaking toilet will be mitigated by shutting off the water source. If severe weather has damaged the roof, emergency tarping will be immediately installed to stop the flow of water into the home. After the damage has been assessed and documented, a detailed estimate will be presented for approval. The benefit of having a prequalified restoration company means that the water removal process can begin immediately. Every minute counts in a water damage disaster.
- Certifications and equipment
What IICRC restoration and cleaning certifications does the company have? Are technicians involved in continuing education and instruction?
- Insurance claims process
Does the company promote its ability to successfully manage the insurance claims process for the customer? A competent property damage restoration company handles the insurance claims process from start to finish. They should use Xactimate, the industry-standard for job estimating, or a similar app recognized and approved by the property owner’s insurance company. The claims process is complicated, so leave it to the experienced professionals who have a positive track record dealing with insurance companies.
- New construction and rebuild services
Is the company equipped to handle the restoration process, including any new construction and rebuilds? The restoration company that can manage the entire project to completion is a valuable asset to the distant property owner.
- Customer reviews
Are customer reviews easily accessible, current, and positive? What are customers saying about their experience with the company?
These questions can help property owners identify a reputable property damage restoration company that can be trusted to competently, efficiently, and compassionately handle any size disaster, 24/7, 365 days a year.
As a locally owned and operated business, the SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County team lives and works in this community and is close by and ready to respond immediately when a homeowner or business needs property damage restoration or cleaning services.

The Advantages of Hiring a Restoration Company With Certifications in Applied Microbial Remediation
5/12/2021 (Permalink)
Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County highlights the benefits of the Applied Microbial Remediation Technician Certification for a damage restoration company and its clients.
The team of professionals at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County has earned seventeen IICRC certifications, including Applied Microbial Remediation Technician. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is the non-profit certifying body for the cleaning and restoration industry. IICRC certification means that technicians have received world-class training in the technology, techniques, and safety protocols for cleaning and restoration. For the customer, IICRC-certification means receiving the best quality cleaning and restoration services from technicians who embrace the IICRC core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, excellence, and expertise. This emphasis on knowledge, expertise, and customer care makes SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County the best cleaning and restoration choice when a property damage disaster such as a mold infestation or a sewage spill happens in the home or business.
What is the Applied Microbial Remediation Technician certification?
According to the IICRC, “The Applied Microbial Remediation Technician course covers mold and sewage remediation techniques to individuals engaged in property management, property restoration, IEQ investigations or other related professions. Emphasis will be placed on teaching mold and sewage remediation techniques to individuals who will perform these procedures in the field. Course graduates will be adequately equipped to perform remediation services, while protecting the health and safety of workers and occupants.”
What are the benefits of using a damage restoration company with technicians certified in applied microbial remediation?
Disaster-specific training in mold and sewage remediation yields consistent, thorough, and safe cleanup of serious health hazards, such as microbials, contaminated water, and human waste.
Mold can cause a wide range of health effects. Prolonged exposure to mold can exacerbate health effects caused by or predating the mold infestation.
Gray water and black water spills are highly dangerous. Gray water, also known as category two water, may have only a slight trace of human waste if any at all. Gray water in carpeting, if not immediately extracted, can grow mold and other bacteria, making it black water. Black water contains human or animal urine or feces. The cleanup of gray and black water is not recommended as a DIY project since these toxic waste disasters require special training to clean safely. Exposure to the bacteria in black water through a cut or through the eyes, nose, or mouth can lead to serious illness or even death. Bacteria in black water also release endotoxins, which can cause serious long-term health effects.
The use of technology to detect the presence of moisture, mold, mycotoxins, and dangerous substances enables SERVPRO technicians to interpret the severity of a mold or sewage disaster and determine when safe levels have been achieved in the cleaning and restoration process.
Other factors that ensure the disaster site is dry, clean, sanitary, and safe for the entire family include:
- the proper operation of extraction and drying equipment
- the proficient use of cleaning tools
- the execution of thorough cleaning techniques
- the application of EPA-approved cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing solutions
Stringent standards uniformly applied in a toxic environment, such as a mold infestation or a sewage spill, yield consistently safe results.
How does AMRT certification benefit the SERVPRO professional who receives it?
There is both a human and a humane dimension to certification as an Applied Microbial Remediation Technician. Disasters involving water, fire, smoke, mold, toxic wastes, and biohazard materials require technicians to enter environments that are at times exceedingly dangerous to the physical health of the restoration professionals. When called upon to risk life and limb, they respond with selfless courage. Technicians who receive training and certifications from IICRC also learn how to serve the needs of others while protecting their own health and safety. A part of the training involves the use of PPE, safety awareness, and danger protocols that keep everyone safe, including the technicians.
Why choose SERVPRO?

Homeowners can rest assured that their water-damaged home is in the best hands in the industry. From the initial call until the job is completed, SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County has the know-how and determination to make a property damage disaster “Like it never even happened.”
Six Water Damage Statistics for Homeowners to Consider
Something as tiny as a drop of water has the potential to cause a massive amount of damage if that drop of water is one of many drops dripping from a leaking plumbing connection under a sink or from a pipe in the wall. A steady drip of two drops per second drips over two gallons of water per day under the sink, behind an appliance, onto the floor, or into the crawl space. Imagine over two gallons of water per day collecting in the insulation in the ceiling above the kitchen table, den, home office, or one of the children’s bedrooms. Unnoticed and unrepaired, the results could be disastrous. Here are six water damage statistics that homeowners should consider when dealing with a water leak.
#1: Watch out for a water damage disaster during these two months.
January and February are the months when a home is most vulnerable to experiencing water damage. One study done in 2014 and 2015 across the US singled out these two months as leading the way with water damage insurance claims. January saw 316,174 claims, and February saw 314,271 claims. That is over 10,700 claims per day. Every eight seconds, a water damage claim was filed during these months.
#2: Failures in the plumbing supply system are the leading cause of water waste in the home.
Plumbing supply system failures account for almost fifty percent more water loss than the number two culprit, faulty plumbing materials.
#3. Sixty-five percent of all plumbing system failures were due to damage to the supply system materials.
These types of failures result in water damage that costs approximately $5,000 per incident to repair, not including the insurance deductible. Cracked pipes from freezing temperatures are a prime example of damage to plumbing materials. Simply protecting plumbing materials from damage could reduce plumbing system failures by over half.
#4. A 1/8-inch pipe crack can leak 250 gallons of water per day.
A 1/8-inch crack is about half the diameter of a standard pencil eraser. Keep in mind that though the crack is small, the pressure in the pipe is great. The leak may go undetected for days, depending on where the water is being deposited.
#5. The average household water leak can amount to 10,000 or more gallons of water per year.
Over time, a small leak can carry a large cost. Keep an eye out for spikes in the monthly water bill. If an unusual uptick occurs, there may be a leak somewhere in the system.
#6. One in ten homes has a water leak that wastes up to ninety gallons or more each day.
Doing the math produces the following results:
- 630 or more gallons per week
- 2,520 gallons or more per month
- 131,040 gallons or more per year
How much water is 131,000 gallons? That much water would fill ten average-sized swimming pools each year. Over one trillion gallons of water leak from American homes each year. That amount of water could supply the needs of Los Angeles, Miami, and Chicago. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), each person in the United States uses about 80-100 gallons of fresh water each day. Water leaks waste enough water to supply the needs of every man, woman, and child in the United States for an entire week!

Mold Removal Requires Professional Remediation
2/9/2021 (Permalink)
In the State of Texas there are regulations designed to protect consumers in regards to mold removal. The regulations are known as The Texas Mold Assessors and Remediators Occupations Code. This document can be downloaded from the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation.
The rules serve multiple purposes in protecting consumers. One is to assist in the prevention of consumers being exploited by unscrupulous, and sometimes unqualified, contractors who utilize fear mongering techniques to prey on unwary consumers. Another purpose is to help consumers assure their property is restored using scientifically-based processes so the air quality in their living environment is safe and healthy.
It is very important, of course, to select a restoration contractor who is properly licensed and who follows the protocol developed by a licensed mold inspector. SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County is just such a company. Our trained experts will assure your property receives the professional attention it needs and deserves.
SERVPRO Responds Faster to Disaster

Floods are one of the most common and widespread natural disasters in the U.S. In the last five years, all 50 states have experienced floods or flash floods according to reports from Fema.gov. It doesn’t matter if a home or business is near a coastline, near a river or even in the desert, there is always potential for flood damage.
Floods cause more damage in the U.S. each year than any other disaster according to the American Red Cross! The following are a few flood safety tips from The American Red Cross.
- Stay away from any and all floodwaters! Should you come up on a flowing stream, where water is above your ankles – stop! Turn around and go back! Do not attempt to try to cross it - just six inches of steady moving water can sweep you off your feet!
- Should you come across a flooded road while driving – never attempt to drive through it, turn around and go another way. If you’re in a vehicle, quickly move to higher ground. Vehicles can be swept away by less than 2-feet of moving water.
- Keep children out of the water. They are curious and often lack knowledge and restraint regarding the safety of running water or contaminated water due to flooding.
Should a flood strike your home or business, contact SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County. Water is particularly invasive, quickly spreading throughout your property and being absorbed into floors, walls, furniture, etc. The team at SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County arrives quickly and starts the water extraction process almost immediately. When fire and water take control of your life, SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County will help you take it back!

How Do You Remove Smoke Odors and Soot?
A candle was lit in this bathroom. Then the match was tossed into the garbage can, and some paper caught fire. In this situation, the only things majorly affected with moderate smoke residue were a painted wall and sink. The minor stains on the sink came from the candle being knocked over in the excitement. The smoke odor was heavy in the bathroom and had spread throughout some of the house. The technicians used the following procedures to restore the home:
- Lubricate cleaning products designed to lift the smoke film off the sink and walls.
- Sealant paint to help with the smell, if needed
- Hydroxyl generators to remove the foul smells.
- Room freshening time-released scents
We understand that even if the damage is minor, it still is disruptive for you. Our technicians are available at any hour to provide fire restoration, no matter how minor it seems. Smoke Damage Clean-up

Our crew cleans carpets!
Not all fires can cause visible fire damage; some only cause ‘smoke’ damage. And that is exactly the case with one of our local neighbors. In this case the customer had smoke damage in their home caused by a pan that was left on top of the stove and the pan still had food inside of it, unfortunately the stove was left on – and over time the food had burned and the pan itself started to burn. Even though there was no visible ‘smoke damage’, there however was an odor throughout the house.
Our SERVPRO of Crowley and South Johnson County was on a mission to get rid of the odor! Our crew washed down all of the walls, cleaned the air ducts and did carpet cleaning throughout the entire home. After the dedicated hours of our crew, the home was back to how it was – odorless!
In special cases like this one - give us a call! We’ll make it look {and smell} "Like it never even happened."

Why We Are The Best Choice In Cleburne For Water Damage Restoration
2/5/2020 (Permalink)
This home's hot water heater malfunctioned causing damage in the garage, the master closet and wound up in the master bathroom.
Why SERVPRO Water Removal Protects Your Cleburne Home from Secondary Damage
Getting rid of water after a leak, spill, or appliance mishap in Cleburne might seem routine, even easy. Some towels, a mop, and borrowing a friend’s wet/dry vacuum should do the trick. But are there risks to managing water damage on your own? The nature of water is to spread and run away from any point of incursion. As the water moves, it can hide, percolating down layers of flooring into ceilings beneath and absorbing into porous building materials.
Follow the Water
Consumer managed water removal in Cleburne can result in secondary damage if moisture migration is not tracked, mapped, and abated. When moisture soaks into structural components or pools up in building cavities, the following complications can occur, why professional interventions are critical:
- Crumbling of drywall
- Bulging and eventual collapse of ceilings
- Blistering of paint and peeling of wallpaper
- Rusting of metal supports
- Swelling and warping of hardwood and subfloors
- Weakening of wood framing
- Spreading of mold growth
Avoid Secondary Damage
Inhibiting progressive deterioration and potential microbial damage are excellent reasons why SERVPRO assistance is worth the investment. When our managers assess your water loss scenario, we go beyond a visual inspection. Using sensitive moisture detection and measuring devices, we trace any migration of water behind or under structures as well as establishing the quantity of water absorbed by porous materials.
Strategies to Remove the Hidden Moisture
Training and experience in the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) best practices guide our response, why SERVPRO is confident that we offer the highest quality results. We relentlessly work to remove liquid water and dry wet materials by:
- Using controlled demolition techniques like flood cuts and drilled holes to provide access to and release trapped water.
- Installing floor and wall drying mats that use negative pressure to suction out water.
- Forcing warm air into confined spaces using the cuts and holes to bring moisture levels back to normal.
- Positioning air movers and dehumidifiers to facilitate evaporation of absorbed water out of structural components and capture and disposal of the resulting water vapor.
- Providing licensed mold remediation services if necessary.
A strong commitment to training and investment in powerful and efficient equipment is why SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County is a restoration industry leader. Call us at (817) 297-8588 to give our skilled crews a chance to show you how effectively we can manage your water removal requirements.

Is Your Cleburne Home in Need of Emergency Restoration? SERVPRO is Always Equipped and Ready to GO!
Since 2002, our team has worked hard to provide Cleburne homes and businesses with restoration services that they could trust. There were never shortages of companies from which to choose. Yet, we have pulled away from the competition with our commitment to our customers. We look forward to learning their feedback about every project we undertake. We are always looking for ways to improve in every niche of the industry. We have trained technicians capable of helping restore fire, water, mold, storm, flood, and biohazard loss, as well as the abatement of lead in residences.
Fire Damage Restoration
We know that fire losses can be among the most traumatic situations that our customers endure in their lifetime, and that is what has us work so quickly to soften this blow. We can immediately begin a thorough assessment of the property and ways that we can implement real-time mitigation strategies to slow the spread of damaging conditions. Removing debris and charred rubbish can help with efforts like deodorization, for example. We can also use this time to assess the vulnerability of valuables and contents in your Cleburne home to determine if relocation is in the best interest of these items.
We can appreciate how stressful than working with your insurance company can be, especially if you are unfamiliar with what they expect and the documentation they need to approve a claim. Our team has become a trusted vendor with area insurance companies because of our fast turnaround with evidence, photographic documentation, and the needed estimates to approve work to begin. We can speak directly with your provider to save you the headache and red tape, helping to get work started quickly on your Cleburne home.
Fire damage in Cleburne residences can often damage the structural integrity of materials, and some areas require controlled demolition and reconstruction once returned to the structure base of framing and studs. We have a full team of general contractors that can work in every phase of recovery from debris removal to controlled demolition and full-scale reconstruction.
Water Damage Restoration
Water loss scenarios are among the most common request for service that our SERVPRO team receives, and this is due in part to the numerous ways that issues can arise in Cleburne homes. Because so many sources could exist, scoping of the job becomes a vital step. Our project management and crew chief work with the homeowner to determine the extent of the damage and an accurate record of what items have become affected and what areas of the property have fallen victim to migrating water loss effects.
We do more than dry up water damage in Cleburne homes, however. We have effective strategies that can help us to accomplish these tasks faster than you expect. Our strategies can get accomplished through the use of advanced technologies and tools like our weighted extractors or tenting for focused dehumidification. It can also get attributed to a consistent balance of air movers and dehumidifiers to maximize even drying.
Cleaning up after water loss events is equally essential to making these situations “Like it never even happened.” Residues and debris can stay on surfaces and flooring directly exposed to spreading water. We have potent cleaning products to remove these residues and protect the surfaces from irreparable staining. We can also ensure that mold does not become a threat in your Cleburne home by coating exposed materials and structural framework with antimicrobial spray solutions.
Mold Remediation
When water loss incidents or high humidity levels persist for longer than 48 hours, the risk of microbial growth and their spread becomes considerable. Avoiding mold entirely in prolonged moist conditions is unlikely, as mold spores exist in nearly every environment waiting for the right circumstances to colonize on vulnerable organic material. With so many potential sources for mold damage in Cleburne homes, our SERVPRO Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) remain among the most extensively trained and educated of our team.
Because we can appreciate how health-hazardous colonization can be for Cleburne homes, our experienced professionals offer a free assessment and inspection to determine the spread and severity of mold conditions if you suspect its presence in the property. We have advanced remediation strategies for removing active colonies and returning your house to a safe environment.
While the most effective remediation strategy involves controlled demolition by our licensed mold remediation contractors (MRC1353), we can also utilize strategies like media blasting. This abrasive strategy removes the surface colonization without damaging the substrate underneath. Also, soda blasting for Cleburne homes can help to reduce the harsh, musty odor that mold colonies emit.
Storm Damage Restoration
While there is nowhere in the country wholly protected from harsh storms and severe weather conditions, Cleburne is vulnerable to many different types of violent weather events, including tornadoes, hail, torrential rainfall, and more. All of these have the strength and severity to compromise structures and welcome flooding or other damaging effects. Our general contractors can help with emergency board up and tarping services to reduce this penetration of flooding so our team can begin drying out a property.
Before extraction can begin, our team can perform a thorough hazard assessment to identify risks that could exist, including structural collapse or electrical shock. We have top-tier extraction equipment that can provide a steady, quiet draw of standing water from your Cleburne home, even without the availability of electricity. We can also implement advanced drying strategies, including drying mats for hardwood flooring or positive pressure systems to drywall and ceiling cavities.
Cleaning up after a flood loss in Cleburne homes can be challenging when contamination is a factor. Remaining structural elements require thorough cleaning with disinfectants and antimicrobial sprays. We have a division of biohazard cleaning technicians that can help to clear up any severe contaminants like sewage, as well.
We know how vital loyal customers are to the continued successes we’ve seen for nearly two decades. We have a fast response to emergencies and can work to provide the most cost-efficient solutions to return your home to preloss condition. Let our SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County show you how we can help by calling (817) 297-8588.

Crowley Properties Benefit from SERPVRO Water Damage and Restoration Methods

SERVPRO's Advanced Equipment and Fast Response Time Mitigate Water Damage to Crowley Area Homes
How Fast Water Removal Can Lessen Loss in Crowley Homes
The two most common rooms that receive water damage in a Crowley home are the kitchen and bathroom, due to the sheer number of pipes and appliances that use water. These two rooms are followed closely by the laundry room and utility room or basement where the hot water tank is.
When any of these rooms in a Crowley home require water removal, the one thing they all have in common is cleanup efforts needed to begin as quickly as possible. Water migrates rapidly and wicks into sheetrock and under floors. The longer it takes to clean up, the more damage it does.
Why SERVPRO?
The technicians pay great attention to the details of the property. We use our advanced equipment to scope the home and look for all areas of water. Using this powerful extraction equipment, we extract the water from floors, behind walls, and other hard-to-reach areas as needed.
Extraction Preps for Drying
The detailed attention to water removal gets the loss area for drying. It is common for SERVPRO techs to make several passes during the extraction phase to ensure we pull up the maximum amount of moisture as this lessens the amount of time required for drying the property.
Professional Drying Equipment
SERVPRO does not use fans to dry properties; we use high-velocity air movers which are driven by centrifugal or axial forces. These little machines deliver air at such a high speed; it causes embedded moisture to rise. The dehumidification equipment captures this moisture and ports it away. This action results in progressively drier air circulating in the loss area and thoroughly drying the property to pre-water loss condition.
Avoiding Mold
SERVPRO techs undergo extensive training and hold a certification in mold remediation #MRC1353. We know the conditions conducive to mold growth and how to inhibit infestations through professional-grade antimicrobial cleaners and the application of sealants when needed.
SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County stands ready to assist property owners with water removal of any size. Call (817) 297-8588, and our certified technicians arrive quickly to make the water loss "Like it never even happened."
We Are The Leader In Flood Damage Restoration in Cleburne
12/2/2019 (Permalink)
After all of the water was cleaned up, the team placed plenty of drying equipment to finish the job in this home when it was hit with flood damage.
Remedying Flood Damage to a Cleburne Home
Every year, Texas homeowners must be wary of flood damage to their homes. Flooding is the second most common claim most homeowners can make when it comes to property damages, behind wind and hail damage. In 2015 alone, over 6,000 flood claims were filed with total damages over $441 million. This marked the 13th most significant event in total claims payments, with payouts averaging at a whopping $66,295.
If your Cleburne residence needs fast flood damage removal, SERVPRO technicians can be at your door within hours of your call. These teams know the ins and outs of flood damage cleanup and mitigation, and use state-of-the-art technologies to get the job done right for you. If your home requires mold remediation after disaster cleanup, your local SERVPRO is also licensed to provide mold remediation services (#MRC1353).
Top-of-the-Line Disaster Mitigation Equipment
SERVPRO, run by a tight-knit, family-oriented crew, prioritizes coming together and aiding families and the community at large with high-end, commercial-grade equipment. This includes drying water-damaged structures with centrifugal air movers and dehumidifiers, removing odors with specialized deodorization equipment, and using a variety of OSHA-approved, EPA-registered cleaning agents to disinfect surfaces.
How SERVPRO Can Help
When your home has fallen victim to flooding damage SERVPRO technicians are ready to bring their own power sources, if needed, to remove water and contaminants from your home. Some items may need to be removed from the home and disposed of at the discretion of homeowners and insurance adjusters, such as flood-saturated carpet. Other structures, like drywall and wood supports, can be salvaged by high-velocity centrifugal air movers and industrial-grade low grain refrigerant dehumidifiers, as well as desiccant dehumidifiers.
Before drying, however, technicians must thoroughly disinfect surfaces and ensure proper ventilation for walls with flood cuts and weep holes. Not only do these techniques promote ventilation in waterlogged walls and ceilings, but they allow for drying of the interior layers of drywall and sheetrock, which often include materials like gypsum and cardboard.
SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County Is a team you can count on to be Faster to Any Size Disaster. If your home has experienced flooding or other types of disaster, call your local team today at (817) 297-8588.

Choosing the Right Tool for Extraction in Cleburne Homes

Our SERVPRO team has accreditations through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) in Water Restoration (WRT), Applied Structural Drying (ASD), Applied Microbial Remediation (AMRT), and Health and Safety (HST.)

Extraction becomes one of the most vital steps to preventing this migration, and that process can begin shortly after our professionals first arrive at your damaged residence.
Our SERVPRO team has a large inventory of cutting-edge, advanced equipment to help in every phase and process of recovery work that we attempt. With extraction, we need a broad range of equipment to address various severities, complicated areas of the house, and available power. The objective is to offer every customer the right tool for the job so that water removal happens efficiently. Not only can this save you money, but it also helps to limit the deterioration of materials and the further migration of water loss effects.
We have multiple choices when it comes to extraction devices, and these include:
- Light wands with wet-vacs
- Portable sump pumps (electric)
- Trash pumps (gas)
- Weighted remote-controlled extractor (ride-on)
- Engine-driven extractor truck
The right choice in equipment for your home depends on where the damage is and how severe this situation has become. You can count on the experience of our SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County team, and our professionals to arrive with the full range of extraction tools listed above to help. SERVPRO of Crowley & South Johnson County knows that a fast response is crucial, which is why "Responding faster to any size disaster" is more than just a slogan to us.
Why a Quick Response Matters
When it's your belongings or business on the line, time is not a luxury you have regarding disaster cleanup. This is especially true when water damage has come into play.
It takes mere minutes for water to spread throughout your property, where it will saturate everything in its path. The walls, floors, upholstery and your belongings are fast casualties of water.
The effects of water damage within the first 24 hours include:
- Drywall beginning to swell and break down
- Dyes and inks from cloth and paper items spreading and staining
- The beginning of a musty odor
- Metal surfaces beginning to tarnish
- Furniture beginning to swell and crack
The damage continues to worsen as time goes on. Between 48 hours to a week later, you could begin to see:
- Swelling and warping of doors, windows and studs
- The growth and spreading of mold and mildew
- The possibility of serious biohazard contamination
- Metal beginning to rust and corrode
- Paint beginning to blister
- Wood flooring swelling and warping
Water damage that is left for over a week can lead to dramatically increased restoration time and costs and can also impact the structural safety of your home or business.

Do You Need A Professional Mold Remediation Company?
3/11/2019 (Permalink)
A slow leak from a toilet supply line may go undetected until it is too late to mitigate the water damage, leading to a mold issue.
In the State of Texas there are regulations designed to protect consumers. The regulations are known as The Texas Mold Assessment and Remediation Rules. This document can be downloaded from https://dshs.texas.gov/mold/RULES-AND-REGULATIONS.doc?terms=mold
The rules serve multiple purposes in protecting consumers. One is to help prevent consumers from being exploited by unscrupulous, and sometimes unqualified, contractors who utilize fear mongering techniques to prey on unwary consumers.
Here Are the 3 Classifications of Water Damage | SERVPRO® of Crowley & South Johnson County
2/26/2019 (Permalink)
There are three different types of water to familiarize yourself with when it comes to water damage—clean, gray and black. Understanding the differences in these types of water will also help you understand how to better handle the situation if you find yourself facing water damage.
With water damage comes cleanup and restoration, regardless of what type of water has caused the damage. The most important step to take is to remove all the moisture and damp items quickly, so that mold does not have the chance to flourish in that mold-inducing environment.
<h4to-clean-water">Introduction to Clean Water
Much like its name states, clean is considered just that, “clean,” and is not the type of water that will pose an immediate threat to your health as it is free of contaminants. Clean water is a result of:
- Broken water lines
- Malfunctioning appliances
- Toilet holding tanks
- Snow melt and rainwater
This type of water damage is the easiest type to clean up as there will be fewer microbes living in this water, but you must still follow the 48-hour rule where mold is concerned. Also, after that amount of time and if it has had contact with the surfaces of a building, clean water becomes “gray” water.
<h4to-gray-water">Introduction to Gray Water
When you find yourself in a gray water damage situation, cleanup and restoration can become a bit more involved and serious. This is water that may pose a health risk because it will contain chemical or biological contamination. While the contamination is still slight, it would need to be thoroughly treated before being safe to consume.
Gray water can come from dishwashers, aquariums, showers, etc. The 48-hour exposure time applies here as well, as gray water becomes black water if not quickly and properly treated.
<h4to-black-water">Introduction to Black Water
When you have black water, you will find yourself in the most serious of the three classifications because this water is considered highly contaminated by harmful chemicals and biological matter.
Included in this category would be floodwaters containing soil and any sewage. Sewage is contaminated with microbes and laden with bacteria, protozoans, molds, fungi and more, which can be harmful to humans.
Some of the diseases that can be transmitted by black water are:
- Cholera
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis
- Gastroenteritis-type illnesses
Always consider floodwater black water because as it travels it will be picking up contaminants along its path.
These three types of floodwater that are involved in water damage are recognized by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Remediation Certification(IICRC), which is an organization that certifies and sets the standard for all the cleaning and restoration companies. Our technicians all study IICRC standards and best practices in water restoration and are available to help determine the steps to take to get your home back to normal.

Creating a Severe Weather Plan With Your Family | SERVPRO® of Crowley & South Johnson County
1/30/2019 (Permalink)
Yes, we have come a long way when it comes to advance warning for some types of severe weather, but there are going to be times where Mother Nature will manage to catch us without warning.
We have identified some steps you can take and safety tips that will ensure your family is prepared for various severe weather happenings.
Creating a Family Emergency PlanOne of the best ways to help your family stay as safe as possible in the event of severe weather is to have an established family emergency plan available.
If you have taken the steps to provide your family with an emergency plan, be sure to practice and review it as the weather seasons change to ensure everyone knows exactly what to do.
If you’ve not yet created a family emergency plan, take a look some things to consider when developing one:
1. How Will You Receive Emergency Alerts?
Thanks to the availability and abundance of smartphones technology today, it is easy to receive emergency alerts and warnings right at your fingertips. If you have a weather app or Google on your smartphone, you will quickly receive emergency alerts, providing you with valuable time to act in severe weather situations. But remember, warnings and alerts are still broadcast over radio and TV.
2. What Are the Storm Shelter Options?
If you live in an area where tornadoes are common, hopefully you have a basement available for shelter, but if not, find an interior room on the lowest level that is away from corners, windows, doors and outside walls. There are other situations besides tornadoes that require some sort of shelter, and you can learn more about those situations that call for them by visiting ready.gov.
3. Do You Have Multiple Evacuation Routes?
By mapping out multiple evacuation routes in the event hurricanes, flooding and fires force you from your home in a hurry, you allow for the possibility that your chosen route becomes impassable and will have other ways to escape. Also, have escape locations in mind that will allow you to bring your pets along the way if you have furry family members to evacuate also.
4. How Will We Communicate in Severe Weather?
Cell phones are generally a reliable way to communicate with your family; that is until the cell tower is damaged by the weather or there is no power available to recharge your cell phone battery or your phone is left behind or lost. Your family needs to have an alternative emergency communication plan in place, as well as a safe meeting place if any of you get separated.
If a storm does cause damage to your home or business, don’t hesitate to call your friends at SERVPRO® of Crowley & South Johnson County to get the cleanup and restoration process started.
Items That Could Cause Water Damage in Your Home | SERVPRO® of Crowley & South Johnson County
12/4/2018 (Permalink)
Severe weather is often one of the first things that comes to mind when thinking about water damage. While storms and flooding are a major cause of water damage, they are often not the only cause for water damage. Instead, various items in your home can be responsible for many water damage situations.
What You Need to Know
Water damage is something that many homeowners will face, and it is the third most common reason for homeowners insurance claims between 2011 and 2015, with an average payout of $8,861 per claim.
First, let’s learn the difference between water damage and gradual damage, the latter of which can impact insurance claims.
Gradual damage is anything that happens over time, such as plumbing issues in the walls causing damage to the walls, ceilings or floors, or water damage caused by cracks in the foundation. Unfortunately, many of these are not covered by homeowners insurance, while storm-related water damage usually is.
A List of Common Culprits
According to the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), the main causes of water damage are:
- Plumbing supply system failures, which can involve frozen pipes that can burst because of the increase in water pressure caused by freezing water or when the supply system material fails and causes a leaking or pipe to burst. Per IBHS, plumbing supply system failures are the leading source of residential water losses and cost an average of $5,092 per incident after the deductible. Also, homes that are 16 to 40 years of age make up a larger group of supply system material failure claims.
- Plumbing drain system failures can occur when a sewer drain backs up and overflows into a home or from a breakdown of materials used. In their study, IBHS found that 52% of drain system failures were caused by sewer backups, and 37% were related to material performance issues. Also notable is that the average drain system failure was more expensive in southern region states than in northern region states.
- Toilet failures are the second highest source of residential water loss after plumbing supply system failures and can be caused by faulty fill valves or clogged drain lines. According to IBHS, toilet failures that happen on the first floor of a home are more damaging and result in more claims than those that happen in basements or upper floors.
- Water heater failures. When water heaters reach their life expectancy, the tank will start to rust and corrode, resulting in leaking or bursting issues. IBHS found that 69% of all water heater failures resulted from a slow leak or sudden burst and, on average, cost $4,444 per incident after deductible.
- Washing machine failures are typically caused by supply hose failures, machine overflows and drain line failures. Washing machines are one of the top 10 sources of residential water losses. Per IBHS, supply hose failures accounted for more than half of all washing machine-related losses.
If you experience water damage in your home, our team at SERVPRO® of Crowley & South Johnson Countyis available to help with cleanup and restoration, making it look “like it never even happened.”

3 Reasons To Check Under Your House After a Flood

Mold damage in a Crowley, TX home
Check Under Your House After a Flood
When flood waters fill your space, you may find damage all over. Water can run down your walls, pool in your basement and stain your ceilings. How can you properly clean up after a home flood? Because there are so many potential damages, you need to check every part of your house after a flood. Your water damage restoration team in Crowley, TX, may encourage you to look in your crawlspace for the following reasons.
1. Poor Drainage
Do you already know that your crawl space has poor drainage? If you've had flooding issues in the past, it gives you even more reason to check under your home after a flood. Storm damage can cause standing water to invade the lower levels of your home. Even if other areas of the house were free of flooding, poor drainage may cause excess ground water to run into your basement.
2. Mold Growth
If you don't check under your house after a home flood, you may encourage mold growth. Whenever excess moisture is left unattended, it increases the risk of mold growth. Even if the water drains out, you may still have high humidity in this small space. The high humidity may be enough to start a mold colony if you do not dry out the space properly.
3. Building Materials
You also need to check under your crawl space to make sure all of your building materials are in good shape. Your restoration company may check on the beams to make sure they are not warped. Other building materials to check on include insulation and vapor barriers. Failing to repair and replace these items after a flood can leave your home vulnerable to further damage.
Storms can cause a home flood. It is important you have this type of damage properly cleaned up to ensure your house does not suffer from secondary damage. Most homeowners are aware they need to clean up roofing systems and interior rooms, but you may also need to check under your house for more flooding damage.
